JOURNAL:  Computer Vision Workshops (ICCV Workshops)
AUTHORS:  Leal-Taixe, L. , Pons-Moll, G.  & Rosenhahn, B.
SUMMARY:  Multiple people tracking consists in detecting the subjects at each frame and matching these detections to obtain full trajectories. In semi-crowded environments, pedestrians often occlude each other, making tracking a challenging task. Most tracking methods make the assumption that each pedestrian's motion is independent, thereby ignoring the complex and important interaction between subjects. In this paper, we present an approach which includes the interaction between pedestrians in two ways: first, considering social and grouping behavior, and second, using a global optimization scheme to solve the data association problem. Results on three challenging publicly available datasets show our method outperforms state-of-the-art tracking systems.

JOURNAL:  Popular Music and Society
AUTHORS: Ken McLeod
SUMMARY:  This paper explores the increasing confluence between music and sport, two previously largely distinct realms of cultural production. Focusing on the popularity and marketing of sports rock and hypermasculinized sports anthems by gay icons Queen, the Village People and Pet Shop Boys, this article theorizes the often paradoxical social and sexual codes engendered by the relationship of sports and popular music.

CULTURAL REFERENCE:  "We Are the Champions" is a power ballad written by Freddie Mercury and recorded and performed by British rock band Queen in 1977. One of their most famous and popular songs, it remains among rock's most recognisable anthems.

JOURNAL: Journal of Sociology
AUTHORS:  Heather Worth, Alison Reid & Karen McMillan
SUMMARY:  This paper is based on interviews with 20 New Zealand men – representing 11 gay couples – who discussed issues of monogamy, trust and sexual behaviour negotiations in their relationships. Overall, they had conventional notions of relationships, romantic love and monogamy that prompted decisions to discard condoms for anal sex as proof of their love for each other. They simultaneously believed that monogamy was not sustainable. Generally, the relationships were marked by ‘infidelity’ anxieties and a reluctance to disclose sexual encounters outside the relationship and to discuss or negotiate their possibility.

CULTURAL REFERENCE:  The Wizard of Oz is a 1939 American musical fantasy film produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Notable for its use of Technicolor, fantasy storytelling, musical score and unusual characters, over the years it has become one of the best known of all films and part of American popular culture. It also featured in cinema what may be for the time the most elaborate use of character make-ups and special effects.
